![]() Products that achieve the necessary minimum scores receive a Standard rating, while those that show advanced features and capabilities can rate Advanced or Advanced+. The analysts at AV-Comparatives perform a variety of security tests, of which I follow four. I follow four independent testing labs that regularly release reports on their results all four of them include both AVG and its cousin Avast. With a free antivirus that doesn't bring in any income, a company might be tempted to avoid the expense of testing. The company does benefit a high score gives it bragging rights, while if the score is poor, the lab helps the company work through what went wrong. You might not realize this, but in most cases antivirus companies pay for the privilege of having products tested by the independent labs. All three display a lock icon clicking them invites you to upgrade to AVG's security suite. Full protection includes panels for Hacker Attack protection, Privacy, and Payment protection. It marks the panels for Computer and Web & Email protection as basic protection. It clearly distinguishes free from premium features. The product's user interface features green and white text on a slate-gray background. If you click one of the pro-only features in the free antivirus, it suggests you upgrade to the AVG Internet Security - Unlimited suite. Also, there isn't a Pro edition of the basic antivirus. You install an antivirus, you only get an antivirus, which I like. With the current product line, AVG Zen is defunct. Last time I reviewed this product, it installed AVG Zen as a management and launching utility for AVG products. You can choose the free antivirus or start a 30-day free trial of the suite. There's a certain amount of upsell when you go to install the free antivirus, but it's much more laid back than that of, for example, Avira Antivirus. You will have to cancel it every year for the rest of your life.Of course, AVG only makes money if somebody purchases the for-pay security suite. They will not cancel your service when you ask them to. I would advise anyone NOT to go with AVG. It just doesn't seem fair that I have to make these type of drastic changes to my credit card because they plan to charge my card every year unless I call every year to cancel. ![]() I am also deleting anything relating to AVG from my computer. I told them that I was going to cancel my credit card so they would not be able to charge my card again next year. ![]() They told me again that my AVG was canceled but I could not receive a refund. ![]() Needless to say their Customer Service people are the worst and would not agree to refund my money. I also explained to them that I canceled my AVG in 2016 and should not have to cancel it every year for the rest of my life. I explained to them that had I received the email I would have called to make sure they did not charge my card. I emailed AVG explaining the situation and was told that they sent me an email 30 days ago, which I never received, that they were going to charge my credit card. I called my credit card company and told them I did not authorize the charge but since I had done business with AVG in the past they told me I would have to notify AVG direct for a credit. I got an email last week that my credit card was charged for my AVG service.
